Went there last year. Apparantly there was one much bigger just next to it, but tourists throwing rocks down to ‘make it go’ and ended up blocking it off. The water then found a different course to this one.

The one next to it is actually called Geyser and it’s where all other Geyser’s get the name from. So actually “Old Faithful” is another Geyser :).

I always thought it would be really hot but people are very close to it…

the temperature actually depends on the pressure in the “pipes” underneath to give an example the water under old faithful in yellowstone can reach 400 degrees F but when it leaves the surface it is closer to 200 and cools quite rapidly the water coming back to the earth would be close to the ambient air temp

fake? don’t be stupid, millions of tourists have been there, including me this year and it is certainly real. most of the water was still hot as it ran off over the ground afterwards but it was very shallow and the icy ground cooled it quickly. you can stand near it as only a light shower actually comes down outside the safety boundary, and it’s so light that it is cool by the time it comes down.

I agree. It’s definitely photoshopped. People will believe anything so long as someone else says “oh yeah it’s real, I’ve been there”.
The water doesn’t even look close to real against that background and if you look closely, you can see the inconsistencies in the scenery from one picture to the next.

After reading through all of the comments, the only thing I wanted to say was–Being a “professional” photographer consists, of pointing, shooting, and getting lucky. Anyone who tells you differently has a self inflated sense of worth and is a photographer themselves or have a friend/family member etc. and they will claim “to know how it really is”. Ah well, thats it, nice pictures regardless of whether they have been edited. And it’s pretty funny how everyone gets upset about the photoshopped comments, they’re everywhere now. It could be a picture of the pope in his pope hat and people would still comment it was photoshopped. No worries—

Heather, you’re just another ignorant person who thinks everyone who has a camera is a professional photographer. Professional photography is NOT pointing, shooting, and getting lucky. Its buying, pointing, twisting, adjusting, changing, checking, rechecking, shooting, repeating to get the perfect shot. So next time you pull out your little P&S camera and think its the same thing as an SLR, think again. They have more features for a reason, so that they people who actually know how to use them can take professional photographs.

wow whoever says this is fake, you are really dumb. if you live in iceland go take a trip up there. and if you live in north america, go to yellowstone. the geysers, pools, and hot springs look like that. the congress pool, saphire pool, and morning glory pool look like they should be fake but they’re real. i was standing 5 feet away from em oh and anyone that says the scenery behind the pictures is too little or is to varying its because geysers are formed in geothermal areas and the sulphuric acid from the water is soaked up by the soil making it very hard for any kind of vegatation to grow
