We rarely have endangered animals reproducing in captivity, so when something like this happens, the event is worth being mentioned. Four giant panda bears were born 3 days ago at a breeding center in southwest China. With the new additions, the Chinese center now has 71 pandas in captivity.

Magic Luck, the 9-year-old mother, gave birth to two twins, both females on Saturday. The birth was followed by Success, an 8 year-old panda that gave birth to a cub later that day and Pearl, the 8-year-old who delivered Sunday morning. Presently, only 1,600 pandas live in the wild, most of them in the southwestern Sichuan province, which was decently devastated from an Earthquake in May. Still, there are successful cases of panda breeding in captivity and here are the photos for the newest addition to the crew.

Why aren’t those babies with their mother? Perhaps I’m being ignorant here but, it makes no sense to me.

@Dawn: It’s because pandas are endangered. Wild animals who are first-time mothers have a tendency of accidentally killing their babies, or neglecting them.

Usually, if a panda mother has twins, she’ll neglect the second one because she won’t be able to feed it properly and it’ll die anyway.
When pandas are first born they are kept with the mother for teh first 10 days, then they get cheacked to make sure there healthy and doing well.. after there daily cheaks they are given bac to there mothers… the only time they are not given bac to there mums is when they neglet or hurt the baby
